How to Clean Bath Toys

Posted by The Folks at Cow & Lizard! on May 20th 2015

Children love to play with toys in the bath tub - but how do you keep them clean?  Ever taken a close look at your kids bath toys and wonder how to keep them from growing harmful things?  Are you tempted just to throw them away and buy new ones every few months?  Well, there is no need to do this.

Bleach is a bit harsh as it could fade the toys, but soaking toys in a sink full of water with some bleach added is a quick solution as you probably already have bleach in your laundry room.

Vinegar is a great natural disinfectant and safe. It is made by a fermentation of usually grains - but can be made from other things such as fruits.  There are special  vinegars out there that are formulated at a cleaning strength.    Add about 1/2 cup of vinegar per gallon of water and let the bath toys soak. You can scrub them off if needed.  If the toys are dishwasher safe, you could run them through a dish washing cycle with a cup of vinegar added.
